Main results.

The Association agreement shows the EU's commitment to strengthening political association and economic integration with the Republic of Moldova by working in close partnership. The Association agreement and the free trade area that we have in place are in the interest of, and benefit to Moldovan citizens and EU citizens, and this is why we have to work together to make sure all parts of the agreement are implemented and all commitments taken are met.

Year after year, our relationship with the European Union is becoming deeper, more dynamic, and also more complex. There are key concrete benefits for citizens. We have been able to consolidate democracy in the Republic of Moldova. Despite the problems that our country is facing, we continue to move forward on the path of political integration and more meaningful relationship with the European Union.

The Association Council took stock of the implementation of progress of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, since the previous Association Council of 31 March 2017. The European Union and the Republic of Moldova reaffirmed their commitment to the process of political association and economic integration. The EU and Moldova issued a joint press statement.

The Council discussed cooperation in the area of justice, freedom and security. This includes judiciary reform, the visa-free regime, the fight against corruption, and money laundering.

The Council addressed progress made under the deep and comprehensive free trade area (DCFTA), as well as economic and sector cooperation between the EU and the Republic of Moldova.

The EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and the Prime Minister Pavel Filip also discussed the EU Global Strategy, the Eastern Partnership and the Transnistrian settlement.
